Lacey Baby Headband Review and Giveaway

It’s been a while since I’ve done a review/giveaway, and that’s a shame because I actually have quite a few items waiting to be reviewed! I cannot speak highly enough of all the incredible shops I continue to find on Etsy and Instagram. (Did you know Instagram shops are a thing?! They are fantastic and way too addicting.) Anyways, thanks to a few giveaways, an upcoming birthday and some very good New Year deals, Luna has quite a collection of homemade stylish baby clothes and accessories. Today, I want to introduce you to My Mika Handmade.mymika

I came across My Mika on Etsy while looking for some headbands for Luna. What caught my eye, were some lacey headbands she had recently posted. Luna has a few headbands, but no lace ones…until My Mika.

My Mika makes more than headbands too. She also makes scarves, nursing shawls and teething necklaces. (FYI her shop is on a break right now, but she will re-open it in February, get excited!) My only concern about the lacey headbands was that they may feel scratchy and uncomfortable, but turns out I had no reason to be concerned. They are very soft, stretchy and comfortable for both me and Luna. Yup, both of us. We got a mommy/daughter set. Is it any surprise that I like dressing us alike? No. It’s really not.

The headbands are well-made with quality material, well-priced and made by hand, of course. They are also extremely trendy right now, and does it really matter if your baby is trendy? No, but is it fun and adorable to dress up your wee little one? Absolutely!

My Mika Handmade is so sweet and is offering a giveaway to one of you fabulous readers! She is giving away this adult leopard print super soft headband.

Never Too Many Headbands (Giveaway)

yellow bow

I told you I had a lot of giveaways coming up, didn’t I? Truth is, I’ve been holding back because we’ve been so ridiculously busy. I am determined to get these all out in the next few weeks! Today’s review/giveaway is so cute you will instantly melt and turn into a puddle of goo the moment you see it. I ran across this item on Etsy (shocking, I know.) And, once again, I found not only a great product, but a great person/creator. Friends of Positively Panicked, welcome to Violet Bowtique!

3bands blueeyes

I am lucky enough to get to review 3 beautiful crotchet headbands from Violet Bowtique. Luna has sported these headbands countless times now. She wore one at Comic Con, one to Santa’s PJ party, the park, out to dinner, to music class and just around the house. They are really fun to match to different outfits and we have gotten so many compliments on them.

These headbands aren’t just for looking adorable either, they also double as ear warmers! Since, our stupid weather is already getting cold, I have used the big bow headbands as ear warmers for Luna many times now. They are also super soft. Lots of the headbands I bought for Luna are cute, but they leave marks on her head. Either the elastic band is to tight or the bow leaves a big row dent on her head. These, however, leave no mark. Luna tends to leave the headbands on, so they must not be bothering her. Yay!

The only bad thing I can say is that I lost the mustard colored one while walking around Comic Con…inserts crying emoticon here. By the time I realized it had fallen off the stroller it was lost among the sea of thousands meandering around the main floor. I just hope another adorable baby found it and is now wearing it around Manhattan.

Dress Each Other Challenge

A while back Husband came across an article about a girl that let her boyfriend dress her for a week. He thought it was funny and asked if I’d ever let him dress me for a week. “Sure” I responded. I mean, why not? Husband has good taste and a good sense of style. He can pick out shoes I like and manages to dress himself well. As long as there’s nothing too important happening that week, I’d let him dress me. However, we soon forgot about the article and went on with our boring dress-ourselves lives.

Fast forward a year or so and the topic came up again. This time I decided we should try it, but only if I get to dress him too. So, the day after we got back from Texas we began picking out each other’s clothes. First, we had to establish a few rules.

1. It must be weather appropriate.

2. It must be occasion appropriate.

3. My outfit has to be breast-feeding friendly.

We dressed each other from head-to-toe for 7 days, and took to Instagram to create a contest. I let my friends on Instagram vote on who dressed who best, but then I thought some of you may want to put in your two cents. So today, the last day of our contest, I am posting all 7 of our photos so you can decide for yourself…who dressed who best?

Day 1 was an immediate disaster. I do not know what is wrong with Husband. How does someone who typically dresses himself so stylish fail so miserably at dressing me?! It began with him pulling out neon and floral together and me making disgusted faces and asking “Seriously?!” After a half-hour of me being horrified and Husband getting frustrated we created a couple more rules…

4. You must wear what the other person chooses without argument.

5. The “stylist” is allowed to make changes once their person is dressed because sometimes what you think will look great just doesn’t.

It was impossibly hard for me to not critique Husband’s choices. So instead of arguing with what he pulled out of the closest I just asked a few simple questions. Questions like this…

You know that’s my lingerie drawer, right? Do you want me to wear the neon pink bra under the white shirt? Did you know it’s 40 degrees outside? So, these 5-inch heels are for the grocery store? Do I get to wear shoes? Am I supposed to breastfeed in that? Pearls? Really?

Husband was less than thrilled with me, but really… this was his first outfit

Yup, there is a corset with garters under that see-through neon top. See what I'm dealing with here?

Thankfully, he only improved after this first attempt. Here’s Days 1 through 7.

Day 1: We both dressed each other up for a fancy family dinner.

Day 2: We went more casual for a day of shopping and running errands.

Day 3: We went in completely opposite directions.

Day 4: the lighting in this photo is awful, but we accidentally dressed each other in the exact same colors.

Day 5: Easter Sunday! Clearly, Luna is best dressed here.

Day 6: It's starting to get very challenging and a little less fun.
Day 6: It’s starting to get very challenging and a little less fun.
Day 7: Hallelujah, the end!
Day 7: Hallelujah, the end!

It actually wasn’t too bad to have my Husband dress me for a week. It was kind of a relief to not worry about what I was going to wear. Plus, he got me to wear some things I have neglected forever. But, let’s talk about what really matters…who won? Please vote “Hil” if you think I’m the best stylist and vote “Pete” if Husband is the best. We are both too competitive and we need a winner. Although, we haven’t decided what the winner/loser gets…any suggestions?

Vote for me!

Cheers!

PinkBlush Review and Giveaway!

me

I have tried a few different brands of Maternity clothes over the last few months (Target, Old Navy, Macy’s, Etsy, etc), but there is one company I have adored over the rest.. PinkBlush Maternity. If you are pregnant, or have been recently pregnant, than I’m certain you have heard of them. They are a very trendy, cute, affordable and comfortable maternity clothing company. They are often featured on Zulily and you can’t google “trendy maternity clothes” without immediately coming across this company. They know their stuff.

Lucky for me, I get to review one of PinkBlush’s maternity/nursing dresses! They offer a whole line of maternity/nursing clothes, which is really really nice. No one wants to spend a lot of money on clothes they can only wear for a few months, but, if you can wear it after the baby has arrived than it’s totally acceptable! Today, I’m showing off the Mocha Bohemia Maternity/Nursing Maxi Dress.

I wore my new dress for our date night out to see I Love Lucy: Live on StageIt fits just right, is very comfortable and easy to dress-up and add layers too. I paired it with heeled booths, a scarf and sweater to keep warm, but in the summer I’ll still be able to wear it with bare shoulders and some strappy wedges (and a much smaller belly!).

If I Can Do It, Anyone Can

My last “nail blog” I wrote simply about Sally Hansen’s magnetic polish, which was great. However, after a couple days, I decided to add a littler flare to my magnetized nails. So, I did what all great Pinterest girls do… I got out my scotch tape, scissors, and complimenting colored polish, and got to work.

First, I actually used my left hand to try 5 different styles. After choosing my favorite, I used my right hand for a final product.

I used the scotch tape to cover everything but a triangle at the tip of each nail.

Then, I painted purple over every nail, and let it sit for a few minutes

.

After removing the tape, and letting the polish dry, I simply topped it off with a clear coat.

Tada!

I used Sally Hansen’s Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear – Purple Potion and their Magnetic –Kinetic Copper.  Big thanks to Sally Hansen’s for sponsoring this post! Can’t wait to try out more styles!

Cheers!
