Luna’s Rags

I really really try not to go crazy getting new clothes for Luna, but these cute new styles, shops and designs keep popping up in my Instagram and at some point (usually late at night as I pretend to stay up and write) I lose all sense of control and mindlessly order a graphic tee/moccasins/head-wrap/up-cycled romper and pretend to be surprised when it arrives in the mail a week later. I’m not even sorry. One of my fav new shops that I stalk, always hoping for coupon codes and special offers, is Rags to Raches. Their rompers are totally on fleek. Just take a look.

Who doesn’t love a kid in a romper?

You just can’t handle this much cuteness.

Rags to Raches is an online shop that sells apparel and accessories for men, women and children, but they specialize in the coolest rompers you ever did see. The designs are unique, simple and gender neutral. You won’t see any other romper like them. The fabrics are soft and beautiful and always a great color. It’s great quality, durable, stretchy and there aren’t any itchy tags that you’ll end up ripping out.

When my romper arrived I was a little confused by the fact that there were no snaps or fasteners of any sort at the crotch and inner seam of the romper. I was worried that it would be a struggle to get it on and off Luna, especially when it came time to changing her diaper. So, when diaper duty time rolled around I held my breath as I laid Luna down and slowly began pulling the romper over her shoulders. I expected it to stretch out and be an extra challenge added to our process. Shockingly, it was not at all difficult. In fact, it was super easy, maybe easier than pants or anything with snaps. It very quickly slipped down to her ankles and back up when I was done.

We love the Rags To Raches romper and it’s been a hit everywhere we go too. I’m itching for more rompers! If you’ve got, or know, a little one you must check out Rags to Raches online store and don’t forget to follow them on Instagram for all the latest designs, discount codes and giveaway!

A Dream Tee

Before our recent trip to Disney I spent days..weeks..okay, months scouring Pinterest, Etsy and Instagram, hunting for the cutest Disney outfits for Luna. After all, it was her first trip, and I do love buying her adorable Disney paraphernalia. While looking for tees, I came across a shop called The Blue Envelope and fell in love with their “Cinderella” tee.  Lucky for me (and you!) The lady behind the shop, Amanda, and I worked together to bring you a review and a discount code! Woohoo!

My fav! Her dreams are soooo big!
My fav! Her dreams are soooo big!

I loved the shirt too much to wait until Disney to put it on Luna. We had some fun at home putting together outfits with the shirt before landing on the perfect one for Disney.

yellow pants

The t-shirt is super soft, high-quality and adorable. I’ve washed it a few times now, and it has kept its shape and color. Considering, I suck at separating the wash, that’s a very good sign that it’s held up.

A rare sweet moment between these two...

Then, Luna finally got to wear the top at Disney! It was a HUGE hit. I paired it with her Kickin Legs custom Mickey Mouse leggings, her Nike’s and her H&M hat. She strutted her stuff all over Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios and got many compliments.

sucker

So cute and cozy that she fell fast asleep on the Kilimanjaro Safari…

Disney was a blast, and I’m so glad I found some great shops to stock up on Disney attire. AND, great news for you… Amanda from The Blue Envelope is offering each and everyone of you a 20% discount on your order! Just use the code DISNEY when you checkout.  Shop here. Sweet!

Big thanks to the Blue Envelope, check out her Etsy shop, Facebook and Instagram to keep up with her latest designs.

Happy Shopping and Cheers!

Newsies on the Road

Newsies_(musical)_poster

I saw Disney’s Newsies the musical for the first time during opening week on Broadway in New York. I never knew much about the show and it blew me away. What I remember most about the show was the phenomenal dancing, all male dancing. There is something very powerful and mesmerizing about all those guys spinning, leaping and flipping in unison. The dancing is what I looked most forward to when I got the invite to review the show at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center.

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!
Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

It did not disappoint.  I can’t tell you how many times the choreography gave me chills. It was honestly better than I remembered. Seize the Day had me wanting to run from the theater to start changing the world for the better, while simultaneously completing insanely difficult dance moves and acrobatic tricks. However, the dancing wasn’t the only part of the performance that had me moving. This time the lead girl, Katherine, truly resonated with me.

I’ve been slacking on work lately…. Even after 16 months I can’t seem to juggle stay-at-home Mom/blogger/tutor/what have you. (Although, I have discovered many other bloggers secret: a babysitter. I should really look into those…) In any case, the female star of Newsies, Katherine played by Stephanie Styles, is a true hardworking, witty, stand-up for what is right, seize the day kinda gal. She’s basically a Lorelei Gilmore for the 19th century, and I adore her. In fact she’s this week’s #wcw.

playbill

Her character, which doesn’t even exist in the movie, is a super cool girl that you not only want your daughters to look at as a role model, but that you yourself will look up to and love. There are a few notable changes between the movie and the musical, and in my opinion, they improved the show, especially with Katherine’s character. It’s nice to have the strong woman who can hold her own in the almost all male cast.

play

Speaking of the male cast, they are bursting with talent. Yeah, they can dance their asses off, but they can also sing as well as any other musical cast, act and entertain an audience that ranges in age from preschoolers to senior citizens. Husband and I were both impressed and entertained from beginning to end.

date night

If you want to see Newsies in Nashville, you have a few nights left to catch it! For those of you outside of Tennessee, don’t forget to check out their tour schedule. AND, for all the locals you MUST take a peek at the line up for next year’s Broadway season! I am stoked!!!

Cheers!

An Even Better Phone

So, remember that time I quit the iPhone and said how freakin’ amazing the Samsung Galaxy S4 is? Well, it’s been a while and now I’ve gotten to try the Motorola Droid Turbo and HOLY COW, this phone is so much better! I love it, and all of a sudden my Galaxy S4 seems so slow and old and yucky and light years behind.

IMG_2399

There are lots of cool techy features about the phone that involve words like resolution, processor, RAM and Kavlar, but you can read about that somewhere else. I’m going to tell you what I like about the phone, and I do not plan on using any of the cell phone jargon. Here goes something.

IMG_2400

1. It has awesome voice control! You can set a voice command, or launch phrase, to whatever you like to get your phone’s attention. My phone responds to, “Excuse me, Mr. Wonderful.” I say that simple phrase and Mr. Wonderful lights up and is ready to fulfill my needs. It is ridiculously accurate, once I whispered my launch phrase to a friend and it responded. It’s so nice to have someone…er something, that always listens.

2. This is related to #1, but it needs it own number: Voice commands! For example, these are some conversations that happen between me and my Mr. Wonderful….

Excuse me, Mr. Wonderful. Take Me Home. (Google maps will then route me home.)

Excuse me, Mr. Wonderful. Call Peter my love. (Calls Husband)

Excuse me, Mr. Wonderful. Take a selfie. (selfie cam turns out, counts down and takes pic without me pressing a button)

Excuse me, Mr. Wonderful. Play Taylor Swift, Shake it Off. (video on, baby stops crying)

I especially love this feature in the car. I typically keep my phone attached to this little device that connects to my AC vent so I can see the maps or whatever. I can have complete texting conversations without ever needing to look at or touch my phone.

3. It knows when you are driving. Yup, it will recognize the speed and background noise and go into driving mode. For example when someone calls or texts you it will say, “Text from Mom, say listen if you would like to hear text”. Everything is hands-free and it works so well.

4. It takes great photos. Here are some photos I took that have not been retouched in anyway.

IMG_20150318_134450671 IMG_20150301_150131885 IMG_20150301_110656282_HDR IMG_20150227_084111233 IMG_20150220_161452196_HDR IMG_20150216_161218928 IMG_20150208_142444250_HDR IMG_20150205_131240019 IMG_20141225_154039458

5. Everything seems faster. Maps, google, facebook, instagram and even texting seem so much faster.

6. The battery last a very long time. They say it lasts 2 days, but I use my phone a lot, so it lasts me all day, which is better than any other phone.

7. It’s bigger and prettier. The screen looks amazing.

IMG_2401

8. It chargers much faster. It has a “turbo charger”.

It does lots of other neat tricks, but I guess you’ll just have to get one and find out what they are!

What phone are you using?

Cheers!

We’ve Got Magic to Do… Just for You

I am one lucky blogger. Last night, I got to review Pippin at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. I miss seeing and reviewing shows in New York so much, but I am so grateful that TPAC offers opportunities to see so many amazing musicals throughout the year. Thanks to them, I get a little taste of Broadway about once a month, and Pippin was the show of choice this month.

pippin

I actually saw Pippin in New York about a year and a half ago, when Husband and I took a little NY vacation. To be honest, I liked the show, but I didn’t love it. I don’t know if we were just too tired or too pregnant, but I remember feeling confused and unhappy with the ending. Last night, I arrived with small expectations and few memories of the show. Then, it completely blew me and my expectations away.

Pippin is fantastic.

It is a combo of cirque du soleil, magic, Fosse dance moves, scantily clad performers, satire, burlesque, comedy, murder and love. Could you squeeze anything else into a 2.5 hour show? It is entertaining from beginning to end, and while it is sometimes hard to decipher exactly where and when the story is taking place, it doesn’t really matter. It’s Pippin’s journey to find meaning in his life and the unbelievable talent and stage presence of the “leading player”. And, yes that’s the name in the playbill, for that character has no actual given name.

pippin3-x595

The Leading Player is being played by Sasha Allen (from season 4 of The Voice), and she is phenomenal. When she is on stage you cannot help, but watch every move she makes. She is flawless and has a powerful voice. Another character who took my breath away is Berthe, Pippin’s Grandmother, played by Priscilla Lopez. She is 67 sings, dances and performs aerial stunts better than any 30-year old I know. I aim to be her when I grow up.

Terrence Mann, left, foreground, and Patina Miller in the musical "Pippin."

The show ends with a meaningful lesson, as well as an uncomfortable idea. True happiness may be found in the most simple joys of life, but time and time again, each generation will question whether their life had any meaning at all.

Pippin will be at TPAC until March 15th. Get your tickets here, and check out dates in other cities here.

Luna and the Wolf

Middle Tennessee has become one big ice cube today. Our driveway has become a skating rink in the little bit of snow that covered the grass is now thick ice. Good thing we had a super busy weekend and I don’t mind being stuck in the house too much. Yesterday, I told you about the Hot Chocolate Run we ran early Valentin’s morning, but the day wasn’t over then. That afternoon. Luna’s Great Grandmother took me and Luna to see the Nashville Ballet perform Peter and the Wolf.  (Her first ballet!)

Peter+and+the+Wolf

The ballet was at TPAC, our favorite place in Nashville, and the Polk theater was jam packed with kids of all ages. Luna was definitely one of the youngest (and cutest) little future ballerinas in attendance. Before the show started she spent every moment climbing up and down the stairs and trying desperately to roam the aisles. I was dreading the start of the show because I just knew Luna would be too wiggly and restless to sit still. However, when the lights dimmed and the story began, my little wiggle worm leaned back into my chest and focused her attention directly to the stage.

ballet2

The ballet was adorable. It was all geared towards the kids. The props and costumes were super colorful, the music was not too loud or complicated, the dancing was entertaining and graceful and, best of all, it was educational. Luna stared at the dancers for a good 35 minutes before getting bored. I was well prepared though, I quickly handed her some baby crackers and she was content for the next ten minutes, which is when the show ended.

ballet

Afterwards they had a special activity for the kids to stay in chat with the dancers, but Luna is a too young to enjoy that. We all had a great time at the ballet. It’s been YEARS since I’ve seen Peter and the Wolf  and I’d completely forgotten how great it is. Hopefully, Luna will continue to enjoy it and I’ll get to take her many more times as she grows up!

Cheers!

My Must Have’s When Baby Gets Sick

This winter has brought on colds for all of us. Luckily, none of us have come down with anything serious. Although, a baby with a runny nose and a hacking cough is absolutely no fun. After a few colds, some fever, the must disgusting dried green boogery nose and a cough so loud it made me want to cry, I think I’ve finally got this sick baby thing down pat.

must have

Yup, Zarbee’s natural cough syrup, Boogie Wipes, Vick’s BabyRub, Safety 1st Thermometer and the Roolen humidifier. (I almost added the Nosefrida Snotsucker, but honestly, I haven’t used it much. Luna’s nose is more drippy than stuffy.)

intelligent

These little tools have been crucial this season, but the coolest of all has been the Roolen. It’s a “smart” humidifier and it’s changing my life. It actually has a detector that adjusts to the best humidity level for its environment. AND, it has 3 different settings. One is “high”, which is obviously high humidity for a dry room. Another is “low”, which will last for 24 hours and the best one is “auto”. Auto mode decides the best level for you.

bedroom

The Roolen holds a lot of water (3.15 Liters), and because I always use auto mode, it lasts a few nights before I have to refill it. I love anything that saves me time and an extra chore. It’s also energy efficient. When on auto, it goes into sleep mode when it reaches the right humidity level it goes into sleep mode, saving water and energy. Plus, it’s pretty, sleek and simple.

roolen

I highly recommend the Roolen, and stocking up on some of these “must haves” before baby gets sick. Trust me, it’s nice to have them on hand.

What are some of you “must haves”?

Cheers!
