Grilling, Fireworks and Lots of Rain

Happy 4th of July!!!! A little late maybe, but I was so busy celebrating America’s Birthday that I didn’t have anytime to sit down with you. Like most of America, we had plans to go to a big party and spend the night watching explosives light up the sky. Toss in a little barbecue and some beer, and you have one perfect Independence Day.

Festive nails are necessary too…

although I’m afraid they look like more like “Pepsi” nails than “America” nails

My day started off as the textbook definition of perfect. Husband and I both slept until 9am without waking once. It was pouring rain (the best way to sleep) and the only reason I woke was because of my naughty puppy. I woke to her sitting on my stomach, growling and glaring out the window next to me. I turned around to see two female deer and two baby deer grazing in our backyard!

The baby right next to my window...
The baby right next to my window…

We spent the morning slowly getting ready and eating breakfast in bed before heading out for the day.

A Nashville friend of ours has an ENORMOUS annual 4th of July party that includes live music, catered food, swimming, a hundred people we don’t know, ice cream drove in from Cincinnati and fireworks.

You may be wondering why these musicians seem to be playing in a bedroom, well that is because the rain that started early in the morning never stopped. Our poor friend had to move his entire huge party inside, which turned out to be just as fun, minus the fireworks and swimming.

Later that night, still raining, a group of our besties decided to move the celebration to my in-laws. We got way too much food, grilled hotdogs in the fireplace, shot bottle rockets off the deck, shared some wine and fell asleep watching Will Smith save America from aliens, like true Americans.

I am way too excited about the hotdog action
I am way too excited about the hotdog action

It seemed ridiculous to be huddled around the fire on the 4th of July, but the high was only 67 degrees here! It was definitely not a typical 4th of July, but who cares. We all had a great day, except Belle. Poor Belle is still suffering from post-traumatic stress after all the fireworks. Anyone else’s dog start hyperventilating on the 4th?

Hope you had a great and safe one! Here’s to the rest of summer.

Top Ten Monday

Last night, I write out a list of everything I planned to get done today, starting with waking up at 6:30am.

HAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, I fell asleep at 2am while watching TV on the couch and did not get up anywhere close to 6:30. That’s okay though…I’m forgiving myself because it was my only day off this week, and I still managed to do almost everything on my to-do list. Booyah!

You know I love my Top Ten’s, so here’s my Top Ten Fav Moments of My Monday:

1. It was 70 degrees out and I wore a tank top! Hallelujah!

2. I did an old “Inhale” Steve Ross yoga workout and heard “Stomp” by Kirk Franklin. Talk about a flash back!

3. Found proof that it is actually spring.

4. Had a wonderful and long conversation with one of my closest friends.

5. Grocery shopped and made dinner all by myself.

6. Heard from Husband, and the house inspection seemed to go well!

7. Watched DTWS and oh my…I got teary-eyed four times! Grant it…it’s an emotional time of the month for me.

8. Gave myself a spring mani/pedi.

9. Cuddled with my love pup.

10. I have plans to be in bed early and go to sleep while watching Sabrina.

All this, and still had a productive day.

My Smudge Proof Nails

During Miss Sandy I had so much free time that I did my nails…twice. Since it was Halloween weekend, and I love dark nails during Fall and Winter, I chose black and black with glitter. The first polish I used was Sally Hansen’s Insta Dry in black. This was my first experience with “Insta Dry”, and about 30 seconds after polishing I accidentally bumped my nails on my keyboard (this is a common occurrence immediately after painting my nails). I sighed, rolled my eyes at myself, and lifted my hand to assess the damage.

Shockingly, there was not even a smudge! It was dry…Insta-dry!

Not only did it dry instantly, but it was super easy to use. The brush is wide and the polish is thick so application can be done in basically one swipe. It doesn’t even need a second coat! I was positive that this polish and I were destined to be soul mates. It goes perfectly with my impatience for drying time, and my tendency to always be in a hurry.

Sadly, our love affair proved to be a fling, a one-night stand even. Not even 24-hours later I had some serious chips on a few fingers. To be fair, I am really rough on my nails, but this chipped faster than most. On the bright side, it only takes 30 seconds to touch up the chipped nails.

After a couple of days, I was tired of the chipping and the touching up, so I tried Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips in Lust-Rous.

I love these nails for the same reasons I love the Insta Dry polish. It’s fast, easy, and I don’t have to worry about smudges.

Step 1: Select the right size sticker for your nail and apply. (It comes with several sizes.)

Step 2: Use this pointy stick thing to press down and get off any edges that hangover. The stickers will not be a perfect match to every finger, but it’s really simple to remove the sides that hang off your nail.

Step 3: Use the nail file to file down the ends, which removes all the extra sticker hanging off the end of your nail.

Step 4: Put on a clear top coat and marvel at your fancy new manicure!

I love how simple these nails are, and how professional they look after application, BUT (like Insta Dry) these didn’t last for too long. A couple of days later I caught the edge of one in my hair, and another in my pocket and it peeled the sticker right off. The good news is that the box comes with extra stickers! The bad news is I’m an idiot and threw all mine away.

Currently, my nails are 4 different colors as I’m trying to decide which shade to try next…any ideas? tips? challenges?

Special thanks to Sally Hansen for sponsoring this post! Keep those awesome colors and quick drying polishes coming!

P.S. I also helped Zoey with her nails, which turned out much better!

If I Can Do It, Anyone Can

My last “nail blog” I wrote simply about Sally Hansen’s magnetic polish, which was great. However, after a couple days, I decided to add a littler flare to my magnetized nails. So, I did what all great Pinterest girls do… I got out my scotch tape, scissors, and complimenting colored polish, and got to work.

First, I actually used my left hand to try 5 different styles. After choosing my favorite, I used my right hand for a final product.

I used the scotch tape to cover everything but a triangle at the tip of each nail.

Then, I painted purple over every nail, and let it sit for a few minutes

After removing the tape, and letting the polish dry, I simply topped it off with a clear coat.

I used Sally Hansen’s Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear – Purple Potion and their Magnetic –Kinetic Copper.  Big thanks to Sally Hansen’s for sponsoring this post! Can’t wait to try out more styles!
