Happy Sunday! Tennessee was chilly and rainy today, but we did spend the two hours that were free of rain to go to a new-ish park and walk, walk, walk. Everyone we know seems to have a FitBit now, so we are desperate to meet our goals and kick each other’s butts. It’s becoming a real problem, but I guess it’s a healthy problem, right? Anyways, I’m finally in bed and ready to draw a random winner of the oh-so cute Scabib!
This winner holds a special place in my heart. I worked with this beautiful woman when we were just pimply teenagers at a local grocery store in our small town. We’ve since reconnected through Facebook and had our babies around the same time. Her baby is a miracle. I know all babies are miracles, but this particular baby had a very difficult entrance to the world and it is nothing short of a miracle that she is here today. You can read all about their brave story here.
Well today was a helluva lot better than the past few. No one had a fever. Luna and I went for a run. We shopped at Costco and Target. Luna was in bed by 7:30. OH, and I got to take a shower, shave my legs and wash my hair while Luna napped…does it get any better??? Well, yes actually it does… tonight, I get to announce the winner of the My Mika Handmade headband. (Did I mention I also got Starbucks and some TV time with Husband? Is today even real?)
Alright, here’s to hopefully making someone else’s night as good as mine, the winner of the leopard print handmade headband is….
That’s right, two giveaways in a row! I’m still playing catch up and I have been excited for far too long to share the Scabib with you. If you’ve been on Zulily or Instagram (#instababy) lately, you are likely to be familiar with this baby trend. It’s cute, it’s stylish and it’s functional! It’s a scarf and a bib, and it’s very absorbent.
Scabib was created by Trish, a mom to a precious little boy. When he began teething, she wanted to sew him something to soak up all the drool, but still be cute. After a few tries, the Scabib was born, and it’s become very quickly popular. Sounds like a Shark Tank story, right? Trish sent me one to review and one to giveaway (yay!), but I also bought a couple more because I LOVE them!
Every Scabib has a terry cloth back (so it’s more absorbent), a velcro attachment, and an adorable pattern. They fit comfortably around baby’s neck and fit for a long time. Luna wears them often and rarely pulls them off. They are way cuter than most bibs and at the end of the day, I just throw them in the washer and they come out good as new! We also get compliments on them all the time.
ANNNDDDDD Trish from Scabib has given me a black and white houndstooth Scabib ($16 value) to giveaway to one of you! It’s so so simple to win one. Just follow the three steps below:
It’s been a while since I’ve done a review/giveaway, and that’s a shame because I actually have quite a few items waiting to be reviewed! I cannot speak highly enough of all the incredible shops I continue to find on Etsy and Instagram. (Did you know Instagram shops are a thing?! They are fantastic and way too addicting.) Anyways, thanks to a few giveaways, an upcoming birthday and some very good New Year deals, Luna has quite a collection of homemade stylish baby clothes and accessories. Today, I want to introduce you to My Mika Handmade.
I came across My Mika on Etsy while looking for some headbands for Luna. What caught my eye, were some lacey headbands she had recently posted. Luna has a few headbands, but no lace ones…until My Mika.
My Mika makes more than headbands too. She also makes scarves, nursing shawls and teething necklaces. (FYI her shop is on a break right now, but she will re-open it in February, get excited!) My only concern about the lacey headbands was that they may feel scratchy and uncomfortable, but turns out I had no reason to be concerned. They are very soft, stretchy and comfortable for both me and Luna. Yup, both of us. We got a mommy/daughter set. Is it any surprise that I like dressing us alike? No. It’s really not.
The headbands are well-made with quality material, well-priced and made by hand, of course. They are also extremely trendy right now, and does it really matter if your baby is trendy? No, but is it fun and adorable to dress up your wee little one? Absolutely!
My Mika Handmade is so sweet and is offering a giveaway to one of you fabulous readers! She is giving away this adult leopard print super soft headband.
3. Comment below so I know who is entered! Tell me your favorite messy day hair trick/style. My hair is almost always in a messy bun and sometimes I throw a braid in there for good measure. Also my hair is almost always dirty so I use baby powder like dry shampoo on a regular basis. K, I’ve gone off track now…
Thank you all and good luck! I’ll select a winner in one week. (Thursday, January 22nd).
Kudos to anyone who manages to run a blog from their phone (I’m looking at you
Stacey, from Mom Upcycles). My laptop bit the dust a couple of weeks ago, and while I did got a new one for my Birthday (yay!), I have yet to transfer anything or put on any programs I use…or done anything actually. I got the new computer just hours before driving to Texas and with no WiFi its basically impossible to work on it. Not to mention, I’ve been enjoying my time away from the computer. However, I am looking forward to getting back and getting all set up again.
I told you I had a lot of giveaways coming up, didn’t I? Truth is, I’ve been holding back because we’ve been so ridiculously busy. I am determined to get these all out in the next few weeks! Today’s review/giveaway is so cute you will instantly melt and turn into a puddle of goo the moment you see it. I ran across this item on Etsy (shocking, I know.) And, once again, I found not only a great product, but a great person/creator. Friends of Positively Panicked, welcome to Violet Bowtique!
I am lucky enough to get to review 3 beautiful crotchet headbands from Violet Bowtique. Luna has sported these headbands countless times now. She wore one at Comic Con, one to Santa’s PJ party, the park, out to dinner, to music class and just around the house. They are really fun to match to different outfits and we have gotten so many compliments on them.
These headbands aren’t just for looking adorable either, they also double as ear warmers! Since, our stupid weather is already getting cold, I have used the big bow headbands as ear warmers for Luna many times now. They are also super soft. Lots of the headbands I bought for Luna are cute, but they leave marks on her head. Either the elastic band is to tight or the bow leaves a big row dent on her head. These, however, leave no mark. Luna tends to leave the headbands on, so they must not be bothering her. Yay!
The only bad thing I can say is that I lost the mustard colored one while walking around Comic Con…inserts crying emoticon here. By the time I realized it had fallen off the stroller it was lost among the sea of thousands meandering around the main floor. I just hope another adorable baby found it and is now wearing it around Manhattan.
K, ready for the good news? Violet Bowtique is giving away a $20 store credit to one of you! Woohoo! You know what to do, right? Just follow these 3 little steps to be entered to win!
1. Follow my blog. (What’s that you already follow me? Of course you do!)
Best of luck people! I’ll be selecting a winner on Friday, November 28th. Oh, and FYI, because Letisha, the owner of Violet Bowtique is a busy new Mom/teacher/entrepreneur, her shop is only open twice a week, so be sure to check out her schedule here.
Before going to NYC Comic Con I had to decide if I wanted to participate in the oh-so popular cosplay (dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime), obviously, I did. BUT, did I want to go all out like this girl…
Or, have a more subtle approach like this girl…
Again, this should be obvious. I went for the second approach. First step in achieving this look was scouring the Internet for comic con worthy accessories. Of course, I needed a theme… Day 1 was Mary Poppins Day! I had Mary Poppins earrings, a Mary Poppins bracelet, a real carpet bag (review coming soon!) and the cutest hand-painted Mary Poppins shoes!!!
I found the shoes on Etsy (of course) from JALI’s Place. Iliana, the shop owner, creates very unique shoes, hair bands and clips and a few other items, but her shoes are definitely the most impressive and unique items. They are all hand-painted on non-latex shoes. She’s got quite a few Disney-themed shoes, which just makes me love her more. Just look at these beautiful Mary Poppins shoes.
Since, we’ve been home from Comic Con I have continued to wear them over and over again. The colors go with just about everything, they’re comfortable, fun and a little sparkly. They’ve also born worn in some rainy weather lately and still look good as new!
AND because my favorite Etsy shops never let my readers down Jali’s Place is offering a really cool giveaway and a few discount codes!
First, let’s discuss this giveaway… She hand-painted shoes in the Dr. Who theme and they look fantastic! They are size 10 and they are absolutely free to one of you!
To enter for this giveaway please do the following!
1. Follow my blog. (Yup, just click that little “follow” button on the right and enter your email.)
3. Comment below! Tell me what you love about Dr. Who!
I’ll select the winner in a week (Monday, November 24th). AND don’t forget that Jali’s Place is also offering some sweet deals. First, With all our shoes they will be giving a headpiece matching the shoes. Second, use the discount code Xmas10 for 10% off your entire purchase. And, third, all the headbands have free shipping until December 20th! Whew, that’s a lot. Be sure to stop by her shop and look for some Christmas gifts for your nerdy/Disney-freak/super-cool friends.
uhhhh….woops? So, I was supposed to announce the winner of this giveaway a few days ago, but I just could not. Why is it that every time life gets crazy busy, it just gets crazier? We have been going non-stop for the last few weeks (yes, even more than usual) and, of course the second I get the teeniest bit of respite I come down with mastitis for the third time!I am so thankful to finally feel human today and to get some time to write as Luna and Husband both nap this morning.
Congrats Anne! Please shoot me an email (email@example.com), send me your mailing address and I will get that onesie out to you ASAP. Thanks to everyone who entered and don’t forget to check out Kennie Blossoms for more cute and hilarious apparel.
Now for a few announcements, I have a TON of reviews and giveaways coming up. Stay tuned for those. I am SO behind on everything, but I will be doing my best to get those out there. Look forward to headbands, shoes, purses, baby apparel, Book of Mormon review, stuff to do with little ones and more!
I’ve missed you all over the last week and can’t wait to get back to work.
Long before going to NY Comic Con, I began planning mine and Luna’s outfits. I plan outfits for just about every occasion, but these had to be special, unique and themed outfits. They required research and planning. Thank God I had months to put together outfits for the both of us. One day had to be “Harry Potter Day”, and I found Luna the perfect onesie while carefully searching through Etsy…
“Accio boobies”. Perfect.
For those of you who aren’t Harry Potter fans (what is wrong with you?), “accio” is a summoning charm and is one of the first spells they learn at school (Hogwarts). I knew Luna had to have this onesie, and it’s perfect on her, right? I ordered the tutu from Amazon, the headband is from Violet Bowtique (review coming soon!) and the glasses and tie are from an old Hermoine Halloween costume.
The shirt comes from Kennie Blossoms. This shop is full of “funny apparel for geeks, brides and babies”, and there is really no better description. It’s a combo of Big Bang Theory, Dr. Who, Harry Potter and ultimate frisbee all printed on tees, bibs, coffee mugs and whatnot.
A new book was recently suggested to me for review. I love new books and I love reviews, but I’ve got to be honest when I say I wasn’t so sure about this one. The book is titled The 30-Day Ultimate Closet Guide, which is pretty self-explanatory. I am definitely a lover of organization, especially when it comes to my clothes and accessories, but my closet is already super organized. Every article is separated by color and silhouette, my shoes have their own designated spots and I throw out pieces regularly. How helpful could this book be to me? Before saying, “no thanks”, I decided to check out the website and the YouTube introduction video. Two minutes later, the author, Brittany Witkin, had me hooked.
Here’s what sold me:
–After the 30 days, you will be able to grab, go and look your best without having to think about it. My closet may be organized, but I still spend hours dwelling over what to wear. I would LOVE to not have to think about it because I don’t actually have hours to dwell, which means I usually wear the same tank top, workout shorts and flip-flops 3 times a week…or 5 days a week…
–This is where you begin to upgrade your look. I really really want to believe that I’m on top of the latest fashions and that I’m a hot cool trendy Mom. (Although, typing that sentence made me feel the exact opposite.) Anyways, I’m pretty hip, but I can admit that since having Luna, my style has been centered around whether it’s breastfeeding friendly and cheap enough that I don’t care if it’s covered in spit-up. You may find this hard to believe, but baby-friendly doesn’t equal chic and sexy.
–It’s 30 days. There are lists, calendars and print-outs. It’s basically a big challenge and something I can add to my planner. Need I say more?
–There’s a style-guide and fail-proof online and in-store shopping lists. In case you don’t understand, this mean I get to shop. I get to shop for things that I know will look good on me. SOLD.
–There’s also talk of coffee, snacks, wine and friends. Yes, yes, yes and yes.
After instantly downloading the book and reading the first couple of chapters I sent my first “partner-in-crime closet invitation”. (i.e. I told Husband he had to do it with me.) We share a closet so the entire project may be somewhat wasted if only half the closet gets organized. Lucky for me, Husband likes getting rid of crap just as much as I do so it wasn’t to hard to convince him. Also, he is always brutally honest with me when it comes to fashion. I trust his opinion when I say “does this look good on me?”
The included 30-day calendar is flexible and allows you to choose the best time for you to do the most time-consuming steps. Since we have Luna and lots of plans (including a trip to NYC) this month, we’ve decided to do as many steps as we can when we have the time. Our goal is still to be in done in 30 days, or sooner. I originally planned to write one big review at the end of the process, but after completing most of the steps for week 1 today I knew I had too much to share already.
Week 1 focuses on cleaning out all the clutter. I am 100% in to this challenge/project/guide so I am following Brittany’s rules to the T (well…mostly). She says to throw out anything you haven’t worn in 6 months, that isn’t seasonal or your wedding dress. So I did, except I did bend the rules a little. Since I have been either breastfeeding or pregnant for the last year in a half I allowed myself to keep some things that I absolutely am 100% positive I will wear, but just have not been able to yet (thanks a lot Luna).
Husband and I began with 4 labeled garbage bags (trash, sell, giveaway, gross hangers) and ended with ELEVEN full trash bags. ELEVEN. And, we literally cleaned out our closets 6 months ago and got ride of 4 full trash bags. It’s disgusting how much junk we have stored for no good reason. I already feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my closet’s shoulders. Our drawers and closet looks so clean! Also, kind of empty… I have to admit I’m a little scared! Even though, it’s a little scary to throw out so much so quickly, it’s also exhilarating. I no longer have to dig through shirts I know I’m never actually going to wear. Plus, I am really looking forward to the next few weeks.
In the next 21 days or so, I will be learning how to put together new outfits from what I already own, learn what looks best on my body type and hopefully purchase some new pieces that will tie the new look, new me and new closet all together! Yay me! I’ll be keeping you updated throughout the process.
I highly encourage you to check out Brittany’s site, TheStyleShaker.com and her book that was just released on Amazon. If you try the guide, please let me know how it works for you. Stay tuned!
ALSO….this is completely off topic, but I don’t really have a post that is on this topic so whatevs. There’s this really cool phone, the OnePlus One, it’s a 64GB unlocked cell phone. It works on any GSM network. It’s crazy fancy, supposed to be the best phone available, water resistant, ridiculous camera, big screen, yada yada yada, BUT it’s an invite only phone. So, even if you want to buy one you can’t unless someone sends you an invite. (Spolier alert: I have some!) The phone costs $350, but there’s no contract, so that’s cool. Anyways, I have six OnePlus One invites. Here’s the deal: If you want one of these invites then do the following:
